BEC
This database is one of the main results of the BioElectroCathode project. The aim of this project is to bring innovation in biological electrosynthesis (BES) through the development of novel cathodes as well as the manufacturing of bioreactors using Additive Manufacturing (3D printing). BES reactors can be used for an efficient conversion of CO2 into biofuels such as ethanol and methane. Such biological processes require specific process conditions, which may influence the properties of the construction material in various, not always positive, ways. Therefore, efforts and in-depth research on the durability and suitability of different thermoplastic materials used for reactor fabrication at various process conditions have been performed and the results are listed in this tool.
The database consists of two parts:
- Data collection of the main common filament properties related to their mechanical, thermal and manufacturing (3D printing] properties.
- Data collection of experiments specifically targeted at the application in BES reactor manufacturing, involving parameters like pH, process temperature, contact between process medium and the reactor material surface, etc.
We hope that this summary related to BES implementation and development will support further research in this field and help potential consumers and enthusiasts of 3D printing to make a decision when choosing a proper filament for different applications, with particular emphasis on bioelectrosynthesis.
