Abstract

The article presents the potential of hydrogen production and storage in Poland. Fossil fuel decomposition (including Steam Methane Reforming, Catalytic Partial Oxidation, Auto-Thermal Reforming and coal gasification), biological material decomposition (biological and thermochemical methods) as well as nuclear technologies are analysed as key techniques of hydrogen production in Poland. The total technical potential of hydrogen production is estimated at the level of 37 million Mg on an annual basis within the whole country. Coal gasification is described as the most perspective technology of hydrogen production. The article covers also an overview of hydrogen storage possibilities in phorous materials and polymers, and the use of hydrogen as a fuel in transportation.
