Laboratory of Solar Energy and Textronics

The Laboratory offers services to manufacturing companies and individuals in assessing the customer's heat and electrical energy consumption (energy balance) and possibility of mounting solar PV installation, photovoltaic panels, solar panels, hybrid PVT modules in their premises. The offer includes comprehensive preparation of investments in renewable energy sources, taking into account the structure of use of its carriers and the possibility of using complementary solutions with renewable energy sources.

Thanks to the specialized tools it is possible to visualize areas of the building exposed to direct sunlight and shaded areas in particular periods of the day and year. The next step is to simulate the amount of energy produced by devices that match the amount of energy consumed. As a result, a forecast of the cover of demand for electricity and heat by the solar system is made.

Our research and implementation works are realized with the use of the following research infrastructure:

  • PV Syst Software
  • Professional 2D and 3D digital video microscope
  • I-V checker
  • Solar simulator
  • Thermal imaging camera
  • Precision screen printing machine
  • Laser engraver-cutting CO2 plotter
  • Double-sided lamination device
  • Soldering stations - lead and lead-free solder
  • Device for mounting Crimpflex connectors
  • Laboratory power supply
  • Laboratory multimeters

We offer:

  • Photovoltaic installation projects with system visualization.
  • Characterization of photovoltaic panels in natural and STC conditions.
  • Optical inspection and characterization of finished products together with a detailed report on the measurements taken – magnification 50-800 x, using the rotating head, allowing for omni-directional observation of the object, shooting and recording movies.
  • Lamination of flat products / printed electronics to ensure better encapsulation.
  • Thermographic study along with a report of temperature distribution measurements.

Textronics focuses its research on a new field of knowledge, which has evolved from such fields as electronics, textile, automation, metrology and computer science. The Laboratory conducts interdisciplinary research, combining textile technologies and fabric constructions with new applications of electronic systems. Textronic products developed in the Laboratory integrate miniaturized electronics and specialized electronic systems with fabric and other materials into a single functional unit. Typical textronic applications that the Laboratory works on are smart utilities and protectors, which seem to be no different from ordinary clothes - but after a careful observation, integrated sensor networks can be seen, associated with electronic control systems for internal and external parameters. They can significantly improve functionality and dressing protection.

One of the most important research devices used in the Laboratory is a screen printing machine with a vision system, a vacuum fixing of micrometer screws and elimination of electrostatic charge. The unit is equipped with the following components:

  • Stepper motor for automatic programmable setting of sieve distances from the ground with the smallest step of 10 micrometers
  • A vision system consisting of two video cameras and cross lines for pattern matching
  • Computer system to create cross lines
  • Servomotor that drives doctor blade
  • Screen frame and doctor blade (25mm x 5mm x 220mm)
  • Pressure paste dispenser for low viscosity pastes.

The device enables both industrial and development research work on the use of printed electronics and optoelectronic solutions, in        conjunction with elastic materials such as fabrics, knitwear and paper. Specific areas of application are:

  • Semiconductor microelectronics
  • Printing of thin-film hybrid systems
  • Possibility to print connections and micro montage using Surface-mount technology (SMT) and Through-hole technology (TH)
  • Developing of printed PVs

The device is a unique high-tech solution on a European, national and regional scale. The device allows Laboratory to bring significant, infrastructural inputs and research capabilities to collaborative projects such as Horizon 2020.

The Laboratory offers dedicated research to companies in the clothing, medical, construction, automotive and power industries.
