25-09-2024

On September 25, 2024, in Giże, in the Świętajno municipality of the Olecko county in Polish Masuria region, key stakeholders gathered for the inaugural workshop of the EcoReadyMasuria Living Lab. This event marked an important step in adapting Masuria’s agriculture to climate changes.

The workshop brought together local farmers, advisors, and experts to develop strategies aimed at enhancing local agricultural resilience. Drawing nearly 50 participants, the event underscored the strong commitment of the local community to collaborative climate action.

Significant topics at the workshop included identifying key climate-related challenges in the region and analyzing current local adaptation solutions. Participants also discussed global inspirations that could be beneficial for Masuria, offering advantages for both farmers and the environment.

The workshop facilitated the selection of the most promising adaptive solutions to be tested in demonstration farms as part of the EcoReadyMasuria Living Lab initiative.

Dr. Max Kochanski, an expert from Research and Innovation Centre Pro-Akademia, emphasized the importance of local collaboration: "Such initiatives represent a step forward in adapting agriculture to climate challenges. Through joint efforts, we can implement effective solutions and foster sustainable development in the region."

The workshop was attended by many local partners including the Warmia-Masuria Agricultural Advisory Centre, Warmia-Masuria Regional Branch of the Agency for Restructuring and Modernisation of Agriculture, Olecko County Office, Świętajno Municipality, and regional media outlets like TVP3 Olsztyn and Radio Olsztyn.

Through the EcoReadyMasuria project, farmers in Mazuria will have the opportunity to adopt innovative practices contributing to the long-term sustainable development of the region, positively impacting the environment, economy, and local community.
