Zero Carbon Tool as a Support for Sustainable Production in Industry

26-02-2025

Experts from the Research and Innovation Centre Pro-Akademia organised a workshop on designing the Zero Carbon Tool as part of the REUSE2030 project. The workshop was part of the project's consortium meeting, which took place in Liberec, Czech Republic, on January 28-29, 2025.

During the workshop, specialists from RIC Pro-Akademia presented the results of a review of 23 carbon footprint analysis tools used in industry, including the New Zealand Climate Action Toolbox. They also shared insights from an online workshop of the REUSE2030 consortium, held in the summer of 2024.

With the Zero Carbon Tool, businesses will be able to:
- perform environmental calculations during the product design phase and optimize production systems.
- receive decision-making support for product design and production optimization based on LCA analysis.
- obtain guidance on designing manufacturing practices to reduce waste streams.

The planned features of the Zero Carbon Tool include a web application tailored to the specific needs of identified mechanical industries, an LCA tool with industry-specific impact categories and indicators, and guidelines for sustainable design and manufacturing practices.

The REUSE2030 project aims to support sustainable industrial development in Central Europe by promoting circular economy models.
